In September 2010, BRMS volunteered to make lunches for kids in the Sacramento area that were participating in a neighborhood clean-up day. These kids were donating their time to pick up garbage and gardening to make the community look better. Besides getting the lunches BRMS made them, the children also received a backpack full of school supplies.
The BRMS group that went had a great time. The Sacramento Food bank gave us a tour of their facility. They had a room with computers so kids or adults could use them to work on homework. In another section they provided daycare and programs to teach new moms about how to take care of the baby.
BRMS’s group did a great job at completing the task of making 300 lunches in a little over an hour! BRMS spilt up into three groups; first group made the tuna fish sandwiches, second group made the peanut butter and jelly and the third group put the lunch together in a paper bag. The Sacramento Food Bank said we were a great bunch and thanked us for coming. We are on their mailing list so in the future we can volunteer again with this amazing organization.
