The United States issued a public health emergency January, 2020 for coronavirus, an emerging virus first identified in China. This comes shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak an international public health emergency. Coronavirus, also referred to as COVID-19, is a new type of disease with no vaccine and no specific medical treatments and has resulted in thousands of confirmed cases and hundreds of deaths in China. This human respiratory illness is moving quickly with cases reported in several countries and on almost every continent. Although the number of confirmed cases isn’t high, safety measures are being taken to keep the risk of transmission low, in the United States. As ongoing investigations seek to report consistent, up-to-date information about this infection, US public health agencies have released dedicated, coronavirus-specific websites which they actively update as new information becomes available.
